Salary and benefits
We offer all our graduates highly competitive salaries that are reviewed on an annual basis. The specific salary you receive depends on the graduate scheme you join, but the benefits of working with HBOS don't end with a salary. We're proud to offer a Total Reward package that can benefit you in a variety of ways.
Bonus
Everyone has the opportunity to earn a performance bonus, some of which are paid annually, others quarterly. You can choose to take your bonus as cash, shares, or even as a mix of the two.
Sharekicker
Once a year you can buy HBOS shares out of your performance bonus. For every two you purchase, we'll give you one free if you hold them in trust for three years.
Sharesave
Once a year you can join this monthly savings plan that lets you buy HBOS shares in the future at a discounted price. You save money directly out of your monthly pay over the course of three, five or seven years. At the end of your savings period, you'll receive your savings, plus a tax-free bonus that you can use to buy HBOS shares at the discounted price or you can choose to take the cash.
Sharebuy
This lets you buy HBOS shares from your gross salary, giving you big tax and NI savings if you keep the shares for five years. You can either make a monthly or a one-off investment, up to £1,500 or 10% of your salary (whichever is lower) each tax year. Sharebuy is really flexible too – join when you want and change your investment any time.
Free Shares
Depending on HBOS’ performance, you’ll have the opportunity to receive an annual award of Free Shares. The award is based on a percentage of your salary (subject to limits).
Pension
When you join, you'll automatically become a member of the HBOS Group Money Purchase Scheme, unless you choose not to. As a member of the Scheme, you'll pay contributions into your individual retirement account, and we'll make additional contributions on your behalf.
Life Assurance
Working for HBOS entitles you to free Life Assurance cover equal to four times your annual salary.
Flex
This is HBOS' exclusive benefits package offering great discounts and big tax and National Insurance savings on a wide range of things including gyms, shopping vouchers, mobile phones, bikes, various health & wellbeing services and more! The great thing about Flex is you choose benefits to suit your lifestyle and needs each year. For example, you can exchange some of your salary for a new mobile phone, or you might want to sell some holiday in return for extra cash.
Private Medical Insurance
From your first day with us you'll be entitled to Private Medical Insurance, provided by BUPA through Flex. Depending on your personal needs you can also choose a higher or lower level of cover.
Holidays
You'll also enjoy a generous holiday entitlement on top of Bank Holidays. This allowance will increase over time and is dependent on the level of your role.
